Residential property management had burned me out.

So much so that I left residential management to try my hand at commercial property management. It required me to take a demotion to an assistant manager and along with it came a $12k pay cut.

Ouch.

But I told myself it was worth it - I was soon going to have work life balance. I was going to have hobbies. I was going to have a life.

That's not what happened.

What happened was that it cost me $12k per year to learn a very valuable lesson...

Work life balance has nothing to do with your employer and everything to do with your ability to manage your mind and set your boundaries.
