So What If You Hate Your Job?

Hate Property Management Job

UGGGGH! Another nasty gram just hit your inbox, and you’re already having an awful day!

Nothing is going as planned. You had an emergency pipe burst in Arden Pointe and have already been yelled at by 3 homeowners in Blue Ridge because the siding vendor left building materials in their driveways overnight. It’s only 9 am, you have a report due on your boss’ desk by noon. Honestly, you’re wondering if you can even make it through the day with your splitting headache. Sometimes, this is just the nature your job in the Property Management Industry.

You may have days like this when you think about quitting your job. But what if I told you that you could learn to love your job again? I mean really love it. You could prioritize things—important things— in your life to make room for your job instead of the other way around.

When I told my first coach that I thought it was time for me to find another career, her reply surprised me. “Don’t go to another job until you learn to love the one you have. Once you learn to love it, if you still want to leave, then leave. But not until you do the work of learning to love what you already have.”

Her words hit me. They sank in. She was right. Why did I think I could find happiness elsewhere if I couldn’t find it doing something I already once loved? And what made me think that I would be happy doing something else if I knew nothing else? I didn’t have any other strong desires or career aspirations.

So, I listened to her. I took her advice and worked on creating healthy habits in and out of work. As I took control of my health, my best self started to show up for work. Then, she started to show up after work. I began feeling happier and healthier than I had a very long time. It was extremely empowering.

Breaking my self-sabotaging behaviors and putting in the effort to find true work life balance was the hardest yet best decision I ever made! It took a TON of patience and grace; but looking back, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! My coach helped me learn how rewarding it is to do the things I want to do with my time while learning to love my job again. What I came to realize is that I DID still love my job, and I DID still love my industry and the connections I had made within it!

But I realized something more. I realized how much I loved the journey of working with a coach. I loved it so much that after I learned to love my job again, I left the job to pursue my new dream of becoming a coach. Today, I help Property Managers across the country learn to love their jobs again and lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Working with a coach might just be your saving grace as much as it was mine. If you want to fall back in love with your job, but you don’t know where to start, I’d love to chat!
